Georgia freshman Will Sumner won the first men's first 800-meter title for the Bulldogs since 2012 with a lifetime-best 1:46.20 at the Southeastern Conference Championships at LSU's Bernie Moore Track and Field Stadium in Baton Rouge. Sumner also anchored a third-place 4x400-meter relay performance for Georgia in 2:59.63, as both Florida (2:57.76) and Alabama (2:58.01) both ran faster than the previous collegiate record of 2:58.53 established last year by the Gators.
