Lianna Davidson, a sophomore at Texas A&M representing Australia and the reigning Southeastern Conference women's javelin throw champion who ranks second in Aggies' program history and among the top 30 all-time collegiate performers, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing June 8 at the NCAA Division 1 Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. Davidson explains how significant her friendship, training and competition with Katelyn Fairchild has been during her two seasons with the Aggies, and how meaningful it has been to return to the Division 1 final together after both athletes produced 170-7 efforts to place 15th and 16th at last year's championship meet at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. She also expresses gratitude for veteran Texas A&M throws coach Juan De La Garza and Aggies' strength and conditioning coach Evan Kubicek for helping her remain healthy and consistent each year, and for preparing her to peak during the postseason. Davidson reflects on competing in youth sports in New South Wales and balancing throwing the javelin along with being an elite baseball pitcher. She examines how building strength in her forearm throwing a baseball has benefited her as a javelin competitor. Davidson analyzes how inspirational it has been to have Australian women's javelin competitors Kathryn Mitchell, Kelsey-Lee Barber and Mackenzie Little among the elite athletes globally, and how grateful she has been to train and compete with them during her career. She also shares how meaningful it has been to have Maggie Malone as the Texas A&M javelin throw record holder and the motivation it has provided for Davidson and Fairchild to add to her legacy in College Station. Davidson speaks about how significant her family support has been and what it means to have her father, Tony, present for her competitions at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento and the Division 1 championship meet in Austin, and how proud she would be to follow Little's title in Austin in 2019 as an Australian athlete, in addition to becoming the first Texas A&M women's javelin competitor since Malone in 2016 to secure the NCAA crown.
