LSU graduate student-athlete Brittley Humphrey, a three-time All-American and Southeastern Conference champion in the 400-meter hurdles, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss capturing her first career individual conference title and preparing for the NCAA Division 1 East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. Humphrey reflects on how special it was to prevail in her final conference championship race and to run 56.14 seconds, the second-fastest time of her career. She shares her pride in the performances of the LSU hurdlers, with Tonea Marshall capturing the 100-meter hurdles title, along with the 400-meter hurdles quartet of Milan Young, Jurnee Woodward and freshman Leah Phillips all placing in the top six and combining to score 26 points in the final. Humphrey examines how the Tigers have the opportunity to qualify four athletes in both the 400 hurdles and 100 hurdles for the NCAA Division 1 Championships, scheduled for June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., with Marshall, Humphrey and Young potentially being supported by Alia Armstrong. She also analyzes the versatility of the LSU roster, with the Tigers having the opportunity to score at the NCAA final in the sprints, hurdles, relays, throws, jumps and pole vault. Humphrey revisits LSU being the favorite to win the women's team title during the 2020 indoor season, only to have the championship canceled on the eve of the competition in Albuquerque, N.M., and how that has created even more motivation for the veterans who are participating in their finals outdoor seasons. She also speaks about the benefit of having impactful young athletes join the program such as Favour Ofili, Thelma Davies, Amber Anning, Lorena Rangel Batres, Nyagoa Bayak, Emma Robbins, Monique Hardy, Serena Bolden, Armstrong and Phillips, and how grateful Humphrey is to have the extension of her career overlap with the start of their experiences at LSU. She also explains about creating her own YouTube channel and the videos she has filmed and edited documenting experiences throughout her career, especially her final year.
